Weaving an Empire out of Dreams
1971
At age 22, Steve Gupta arrived in Canada with $ 108 in his pocket and a dream to build an empire.
That small business is now a commercial complex comprised of: the 91 room Comfort Inn, Harvey's and Swiss Chalet and Canada's busiest Esso Service Centre
That hotel was underperforming in the marketplace and was consistently losing money. During the first year of ownership, he put his personal touch throughout.
All of the rooms were refurbished and the common area improved - a money-losing hotel became profitable in that first year
2001
Voted the “Businessman of The Year”, by the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce
Recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for community service on the Queen’s 50th Anniversary
Recipient of the Markham Board of Trade for the Award of Excellence in Business and Entrepreneurship
