It’s a story with humble beginnings, dating back over four decades, to when the Group’s founder, Dr. Steve Gupta, set his sights on achieving his entrepreneurial dreams. Back then, what Dr. Gupta lacked in financial resources, he made up in boundless ambition, enthusiasm and energy.
Studying and working at the same time to finance his fledgling dream, Dr. Gupta’s first foray into business was the purchase of a truck stop in Port Hope, Ontario, to which he added a hotel and various restaurants in the ensuing years. Like most visionaries, he was able to foresee the possibilities, rightly predicting the boom in highway traffic and confident that this would yield significant returns for his investment over the years. From here, there was no looking back.
Current EGH Portfolio
The current EGH hotel portfolio spans across Ontario and Quebec, consisting of 28 hotels under the flags of Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Choice Hotels and Starwood, Dr. Gupta is the only hotelier to opened three new hotels in 2009 when the country was struggling through a recession.
Leadership & Recognition
Under Dr. Gupta’s able leadership, the Easton’s Group’s hotels have been widely recognized with many different awards. In 2017, he won the Marriott Outstanding Contribution to the System Award and in 2016, he won the Hilton Hotels and Resorts Developer of the Year Award. In 2015, Dr. Gupta was honoured with the prestigious Doctorate of Laws honoris causa, by Ryerson University. In 2010, Dr. Gupta became the first Canadian and the only South Asian to have won the prestigious Marriott Horizon Partnership Circle award.
IN 2010, DR. GUPTA BECAME THE FIRST CANADIAN AND THE ONLY SOUTH ASIAN TO HAVE WON THE PRESTIGIOUS MARRIOTT HORIZON PARTNERSHIP CIRCLE AWARD.
